The City of Bern and the two landowners of the site - the Burgergemeinde Bern and
Swiss Post - have presented their plans for the development of the Weyermannshaus West site. According to the plans, a mixed quarter with residential and work uses is to be created on an area of around 70,000 square meters in the west of Berne.

The urban development concept, which was determined in a study commission and served as the basis for the further
planning steps is now available. The concept of the team led by architect Rolf Mühlethaler is to be implemented. Around 80 percent residential use is planned, which corresponds to 800 to 1,000 residential units, as well as 20 percent other uses. A dense, mixed-use district is to be created on the former industrial estate, which will be linked to the neighboring districts. The site is to be developed in several stages over around ten years.

The next step is to draw up the planning proposal. The Bernese electorate is expected to vote on the planning proposal in 2021. If the proposal is approved, implementation can then begin in stages by the landowners Swiss Post and the Burgergemeinde Bern. The site is part of the Ausserhollingen development focus (ESP).
