New residential and commercial quarter planned for Pratteln
The non-profit housing company Logis Suisse wants to develop the site of the former Coop distribution center in Pratteln (BL) into a residential and commercial quarter. The design by Bachelard Wagner Architekten and Raderschallpartner AG Landschaftsarchitekten was selected for the redevelopment of the 40,000 sqm site.
According to Logis Suisse, the site has a potential of around 470 apartments and 20,000 square meters for commercial uses. The company has owned the site since the beginning of 2016, but intends to pass on a large proportion of the residential projects to regional non-profit developers once the neighborhood plan process has been completed.
Ten entries were submitted in the urban planning competition; the winner was the design "Zentrale Pratteln" by Bachelard Wagner Architekten from Basel and the landscape architects Raderschallpartner from Meilen. The plan is for four timber-framed buildings arranged in a rectangle. Office and commercial uses are to be accommodated in the existing timber-framed building and the sugar silo. The municipality of Pratteln is also planning a new school complex with a triple gymnasium on the site.
The urban development concept is now to be further developed into a guideline project that will form the basis for a regular neighborhood planning procedure. Construction could begin in 2022 at the earliest.
