Lucerne: Reussbühl urban development starts with "Reusszopf" building project
In the Reussbühl district of Lucerne, up to 800 apartments and space for 700 jobs are to be built within the next 20 years. The starting signal for this development is the "Reusszopf" project in Reussbühl East.

The development is to be realized at the Reusszopf, i.e. the place where the Kleine Emme and the Reuss flow together. The project is being implemented by the Reusszopf building society, which is made up of the Reussbühl building cooperative and three other landowners. Within the next three to four years, 80 new rental apartments and 1,300 square meters of commercial space are to be built. The investment volume is estimated at CHF 47 million.
The "Reusszopf" development is being planned by the Lucerne architects Lütolf and Scheuner. The core of the project is a five-story longitudinal building consisting of five house sections along Reusszopfstrasse. In addition, a four-story single house is planned in the direction of the main street.
The individual houses will contain apartments of various sizes for different types of families and living situations. On the first floor, there is space for studios and service areas. At the corner of the building in the northeast of the longitudinal building, facing the Seetalplatz and the river, a coffee bar is to be built.
The "Reusszopf" development is intended to start the development of the Reussbühl neighborhood with its industrial sites and former workers' quarters. The initiators see great potential to develop the area into an urban neighborhood in close proximity to the center and traffic hub Seetalplatz, but also to local recreation areas and the old town of Lucerne.
The city of Lucerne is currently finalizing the Reussbühl Ost development plan. According to a statement by the Reussbühl building cooperative, the "Reusszopf" project plays an important role in this plan because the five-story buildings along the bypass road will shield the town center, which is to be revitalized as a neighborhood center, from road noise. The aim is to submit the development plan to the canton for preliminary examination by the summer vacations. It is expected to be ready for approval by the end of2019. Then both the "Reusszopf" and other construction projects can be realized.
