Baden: Groundbreaking for baths project
Verenahof AG, HRS Real Estate and the City of Baden have held the symbolic groundbreaking ceremony for the long-planned superstructure in the Bäderquartier.
The centerpiece of the construction projects in Baden (AG) is the new thermal spa designed by renowned architect Mario Botta. Right next to it, a medical and residential building will be constructed, and the Verenahof area - consisting of the old spa hotels Verenahof, Bären and Ochsen - will become a clinic for prevention and rehabilitation. The developer Verenahof AG says it is investing CHF 150 million.
The city of Baden is having the Kurplatz and the surrounding alleys redesigned, and the Mättelipark is also to be upgraded and supplemented by an infrastructure building with a public toilet. Art objects located in the perimeter are to be presented in a new way.
The groundbreaking was preceded by a long struggle for the project and building permits. Originally, it was to take place at the end of 2016, but delays occurred time and again. A year ago, the first official groundbreaking ceremony was held for the thermal baths in Baden. After the old thermal bath, Römerbad and Staadhof were demolished, however, nothing happened for quite some time. At the beginning of March this year, the first preliminary work for the thermal bath and the residential and medical center was started. Since the beginning of April, archaeological excavations have been carried out. The developer expects construction to take around two and a half years.
