Biberist: Axa plans Schöngrün residential development
Axa wants to build over the site of the former Schöngrün correctional facility in Biberist. Around 160 apartments are to be built.
The building application for the residential development is currently open to the public. Axa acquired the 44,000 sqm site in 2016. In doing so, it also adopted and further developed the winning project of the test planning - the "Horseshoe" project by the Baden-based firm ERP Architekten.
Two rows of buildings are planned, swinging a wide arc on the site and thus reflecting the topography of the landscape with the Gisihübeli. The new buildings will comprise around 160 rental apartments in the mid-range segment; the apartment mix is intended to appeal to families, two-person households and singles in equal proportions.
According to Axa, alternative forms of housing are also planned, such as large apartments for residential communities and small apartments supplemented with communal spaces. The development will be surrounded by a publicly accessible green space that will create a connection to Gisihübeli. The Solothurn train station will be around a ten-minute walk away.
The groundbreaking ceremony for the Schöngrün development is scheduled for August 2018. The apartments should be ready for occupancy in mid-2020.
