Retail: WonderWaffle and Joe & the Juice expand in Zurich
The gastronomy concept WonderWaffel from Berlin is opening in Zurich Seefeld, and the coffee and juice bar Joe & the Juice has also secured two new locations in the city. CBRE was commissioned by the tenant to search for locations and negotiate the lease agreements.
The Danish gastro chain Joe & the Juice is already represented in Zurich at Sihlcity and Schiffländeplatz, and now another location has opened at Sihlstrasse 37. A fourth branch will open at Limmatquai 70 in the summer. WonderWaffel is now another new gastronomy concept coming to the city; the Berlin-based company is opening its first branch in Zurich Seefeld.
According to Michael Dressen, responsible for the Retail Agency division at CBRE, more and more retail space is being used by gastro concepts: "Building owners are now specifically asking us for possible subsequent users from the gastronomy/café segment for previous retail space. In the past, this was often the other way around."
Also the current study How Global is the Business of Retail? by CBRE confirms this trend, according to the real estate service provider. The study examined 47 countries and 123 global cities that had international retailers and gastronomy chains on their target list. According to the study, traditional retail trade is no longer responsible for the lion's share of new leases of retail space. More and more space is being used by concepts from the café and restaurant, leisure or education sectors. This trend can be observed worldwide, but especially in established markets such as Europe, according to CBRE.
