A new village quarter is being created in Diepoldsau

In Diepoldsau (SG), a residential quarter is to be built on a 10,000 square meter site. The study contract was won by the project "Seven at one stroke" by the architects Baumschlager Hutter Partners from Widnau.

Mettler Wohnwelten AG invited six planning teams to participate in an anonymous study contract, which was handled by ZIMA Projektentwicklung St. Gallen. ZIMA, as the client's representative, is also responsible for the implementation of the winning project.

An initial development strategy for the site, which had previously been used for commercial and, in part, agricultural purposes, envisaged developing a neighborhood with residential space for tenants and owners that would fit in well with the surrounding development of smaller and larger residential buildings with multi-family and single-family homes. According to the developer, the site's advantages include "good connections to local public transport and favorable structures for motorized individual transport."

The winning project envisages seven buildings with a total of 79 apartments. Garden, storey and attic apartments ranging from 1.5 to 5.5 rooms are planned. The three most generously designed buildings occupy a "standing" position, the three smaller ones are correspondingly transverse, and the seventh house has an almost square floor plan. Different numbers of floors, relaxed facade images, an underground garage as well as innovative and different floor plans had convinced the jury, according to a ZIMA statement.

Construction is scheduled to start at the end of 2019, with completion planned for the end of 2022. The project volume is estimated at CHF 42 million.
