Residential project planned for Bern's Gangloff site
A development with up to 180 apartments is to be built on the Gangloff site near Europaplatz in Bern. The new development regulations and the amendment to the existing zone with planning obligation are currently open to the public.

The owners want to replace the buildings currently in temporary use on the Gangloff site with a new building for commercial, service and, above all, residential use. The plan is for 160 to 180 one-and-a-half to three-room apartments. As the site is located in a service zone, the housing initiative for the promotion of affordable housing and non-profit housing developers does not apply, according to the City of Bern. The construction project is expected to be completed in 2022.
The project marks the completion of the conversion of the Gangloff site. The first stage of the site development with Europaplatz and the directly adjacent Europaplatz center was already completed in 2014. The new building is intended to form an urban counterpart to the Europaplatz center and enhance the situation along Freiburgstrasse. Public-oriented uses on the first floor are intended to enliven the surrounding area.
