Winterthur: Foundation stone laid for first Lokstadt house

The starting signal has been given for Winterthur's new Lokstadt district. The foundation stone for the first building on the site, Haus Krokodil, has now been laid.

Haus Krokodil will comprise a total of 254 rental and owner-occupied apartments and is located directly on the central Dialogplatz. From the first floor upwards, the building consists largely of a timber structure, Implenia says. Compared to conventional solid construction, timber construction saves grey energy and greenhouse gas emissions and also ensures a "particularly comfortable living environment".

Implenia is realizing Haus Krokodil, whose name is intended to recall the first electric Gotthard locomotive, Krokodil, which was once built on the site, together with the Adimora investment foundation and the gaiwo and Gesewo cooperatives. According to Implenia, the 56 condominiums in Haus Krokodil have been sold "in record time." The new building should be ready for occupancy in 2020.
