Wattwil: Laying of the foundation stone for superstructure at the railroad station
Schweizerische Südostbahn (SOB) and Asga Pensionskasse Genossenschaft, together with the general contractor Priora, have laid the foundation stone for the "Bahnhof Süd Wattwil" development.
SOB and Asga are building a total of 75 barrier-free rental apartments with 2.5 and 3.5 rooms at the Wattwil (SG) train station. In addition, 1,800 square meters are planned for retail trade and service providers. The total investment costs of the center development amount to around CHF 30 million.
According to a media release, Bäckerei Abderhalden Wattwil will open a café with more than 30 seats and a bakery in the new building in fall 2019. "Negotiations with other interested parties are underway," said Bruno Baumgartner, SOB business unit manager for real estate and ICT. HEV Verwaltungs AG in Wattwil has been commissioned with the initial letting of the apartments. The first apartments should be ready for occupancy from fall 2019.
Schweizerische Südostbahn (SOB) is anchored in eastern and central Switzerland and employs over 600 people. The SOB's core business is passenger transport; in 2017, over 13.5 million passengers traveled with the rail company. The SOB rail network covers 123 kilometers and is rich in tunnels, viaducts and bridges, including Switzerland's highest rail bridge, the 99-meter-high Sitter Viaduct near St. Gallen.
Asga is a pension fund organized as a cooperative. With 12,305 affiliated companies, 106,622 insured persons and total assets of CHF 15.9 billion, it is, according to its own information, the largest independent joint pension fund in Switzerland.
Priora is active in the field of project development and general and total contracting. Since March of this year, Priora AG Generalunternehmung has been a subsidiary of the Eiffage Group.
