Fortimo wants to develop Schubiger site in Uznach
E. Schubiger & Cie. is selling the entire weaving mill site in a central location in Uznach (SG) to the Fortimo Group. A development with apartments and service areas is to be built there.
According to Fortimo, 130 rental and owner-occupied apartments, almost 6,000 square meters of space for services and 280 parking spaces are planned - based on an approved superstructure plan. The historic building fabric of the Seidenhof is to be integrated into the superstructure.
The company E. Schubiger & Cie. had operated a silk weaving mill in the old factory building since 1853, but as early as the 1960s the premises were gradually used for other purposes, including schoolrooms set up here by the municipality. After a land cession for a retirement home and rounding off the Swisscom building and the former post bus garage, the planning process for the redevelopment of the weaving mill area began. According to Fortimo, the former owners have recently obtained a rezoning for the site and a development plan with the corresponding project basis. The development has also been legally approved. Fortimo Invest was awarded the contract in the recent investor tender.
Fortimo says it intends to develop the site in the near future. The listed Seidenhof with its chimney is to be carefully renovated and expanded. Around 1,200 square meters of commercial space are planned, combined with 30 loft apartments. In addition, around 46 condominiums will be built on the south side, as well as 52 rental apartments and almost 4,800 sqm of service space. Parking will be primarily underground, with a total of 280 parking spaces. By
Fortimo says it will invest around CHF 100 million in the Seidenhof site before it is completed. (ah)
