The landowners - Vaudoise Insurance, a condominium owners' association, V-Zug Immobilien AG and the canton of Zug - see development potential in their properties and have decided on a coordinated approach to realizing their project ideas, according to the city of Zug. Now a study contract is to show what is possible in the centrally located area in Zug's Guthirt district.

The so-called Rote Post, the building along Baarerstrasse, and a residential building owned by V-Zug on Göblistrasse will soon have reached the end of their useful lives and are to be replaced by new buildings, according to the city's statement. The various project intentions of the landowners are to be examined by means of a study contract in which six renowned Swiss architectural firms are participating. The aim is to upgrade the area in terms of urban development and to increase the density in a compatible way. The high-rise building regulations of the city of Zug regard the area as a suitable location for high-rise buildings.

The intersection of Baarerstrasse and Göblistrasse is particularly suitable for a high-rise building, the city continues. This is also where V-Zug's plans for the "Pi" high-rise wooden building with mainly low-priced apartments are already well advanced. On the plot of V-Zug Immobilien AG there is currently a residential building of the company's pension fund with low-cost apartments, which, however, are at the end of their life cycle. The "Pi" high-rise project could more than double the number of low-cost apartments, it adds. In addition, it is being examined whether rooms for extracurricular care and an additional gymnasium for the Guthirt elementary school can also be accommodated.

The study procedure for the overall urban development concept and the project competition are to be completed by mid-2019. This will be followed by the preparation of a development plan, the legal validity of which is targeted for 2021. (ah)
