Zurich: Groundbreaking for new PWG project
The ground-breaking ceremony for a new building with 33 rental apartments took place on September 28. The client is the Foundation for the Preservation of Affordable Residential and Commercial Space in the City of Zurich (PWG).

The new building at Rautihalde 15, 19 in Zurich-Altstetten replaces a smaller property from 1959, which was in a poor structural condition according to the developer PWG. A total of 33 large, affordable apartments are now being built, mainly aimed at families. According to PWG, the new building will cost CHF 15 million and is scheduled for completion in 2020.
According to the PWG, the space requirements for the architects were minimized to the utmost in the competition. Fiederling Habersang Architekten, who won the competition, designed "very compact and yet very versatile apartments", according to the press release. Similar to Wilhelminian-style apartments, the rooms here are also self-contained and offer plenty of storage space.
The new building in Altstetten is one of the foundation's current five new construction projects. (ah)
