Bern: New use for old carpenter's workshop on the vonRoll site
The Alte Schreinerei on the vonRoll site in Bern is to become a market hall with a restaurant. In addition, affordable living space for students as well as further apartments and offices are to be created, according to the Canton of Bern.

In April, the canton of Bern put the Alte Schreinerei on the site of the vonRoll University Center out to public tender for purchase under building rights because it has no need for the 150-year-old listed building and therefore wants to put it to a new use. Since spring 2017, the building has been in interim use by the "Kollektiv Fabrikool".
It has now been announced that two private individuals from Bern will purchase the building for a symbolic price of one franc and pay a building lease for the land. The building is to be renovated to the Minergie-Eco standard at their own expense. A market hall, a restaurant and a multi-purpose room for the neighborhood are to be built on the first floor. Affordable apartments and rooms for students as well as apartments and offices for visitors to the university and the University of Teacher Education are planned for the upper floors.
The new owners are expected to start the renovation work in around a year, the press release adds. The construction period is expected to last around 14 months. (ah)
