In 2017, it was announced that Nestlé would close the Galderma-Spirig site in Egerkingen, and now a new owner has been found for the site. Omya International, a manufacturer of industrial minerals and distributor of specialty chemicals, is taking over the property including all buildings and facilities. In addition, Omya intends to take over Spirig Pharma's Cosmospheres business unit and offer further employment to the employees in this business unit, the company says.

Omya plans to relocate its research and development departments from Oftringen to Egerkingen, partly because the space at its Oftringen headquarters has reached capacity limits, the company said. In an initial phase, around 150 to 200 jobs are planned; in the long term, up to 350 full-time positions could be located in Egerkingen. (ah)
