Zurich: A modular housing estate is being built near Altstetten station
On the Geerenweg site near the Zurich-Altstetten train station, the Fogo development is being built with affordable housing for trainees and refugees as well as space for creative businesses.

The Fogo superstructure will remain on the Geerenweg site in Altstetten for 20 years. The Einfach Wohnen (SEW) foundation, the AOZ professional organization and the Juwo youth housing network association are behind the modular housing development.
On the west side of the site, Stiftung Einfach Wohnen (SEW) is building 33 apartments, each with three or five bedrooms, by December. Juwo, a youth housing network involved in the project, is renting 22 apartments for young people in training, and AOZ is renting eleven apartments for housing refugees. The project, called "Wohnen am Vulkanplatz," also includes rooms for shared uses, including an event space.
In addition, a temporary residential and commercial development is being built, into which refugees and creative companies will move in stages from the beginning of 2019. The commercial spaces will be built in a noise barrier around the housing estate. Publicly accessible catering facilities as well as play and sports facilities are also planned. The overall concept also includes a parking area for caravans.
The Einfach Wohnen Foundation expects construction costs of around CHF 12 million for its first building project, while the AOZ estimates total costs of around CHF 8 million for its project. (ah)
