Fribourg: Laying of the foundation stone for student apartments
The developer Halter AG Entwicklungen and the investor Apartis have laid the foundation stone for the Fonderie project in Fribourg. 171 apartments are being built, primarily for students, as well as commercial space.
The Fonderie development is being built in the Pérolles district to the west of the former chocolate factory and opposite "Fri-Son" and "Fonderie 11". Buildings 1-5 have eight floors and comprise 413 rooms, divided into 38 studios and 45 three-room and 60 four-room units. These are aimed exclusively at students, Halter says.
To the west of this is an additional eight-story building with a polygonal floor plan. This house 6 includes a total of 27 apartments with 2.5 to 4.5 rooms and a studio, which are intended for young adults. A Coop gas station, a 275 sqm store and 26 parking spaces are also planned on the site. The project was designed by KPA Architectes Fribourg, and the general contractor is Priora. According to Halter, the Fonderie will be the first site in Fribourg to meet the targets of the 2,000-watt society. First occupancy of the apartments or rooms is planned for the end of 2020.
Around 10,000 of Fribourg's total population of 38,500 are students, who find it difficult to find housing each year before the start of the semester, Halter says. The site development is a response to the housing shortage in the city, the company says. (ah)
