Chur: Investor competition for Sennhof site completed
A new quarter with a broad mix of uses is to be built on the Sennhof site on the edge of Chur's old town. The Kontinuum project won the investor competition.
When the new Cazis Tignez correctional facility becomes operational at the beginning of 2020, the Sennhof correctional facility will be abandoned. The entire site will then be handed over to third parties on the basis of building rights. An open investor competition for the future use of the entire site on the eastern edge of Chur's old town was won by the Kontinuum project, which was developed by the architectural firm Ritter Schumacher from Chur. The investors are Brandis Investment from Maienfeld and Miro Immo AG from Chur. A total of five projects were submitted to the competition.
Kontinuum successfully continues the existing building structure from the northwest corner and fits harmoniously and thoughtfully into the old town, according to the report of the assessment panel. The characteristic tower, the arched wing and the buildings along Sennhofstrasse would be preserved. By angling the new part of the building, the inner courtyard would be redefined, opening up towards the vineyard and appearing more spacious. A mix of uses is planned, including a restaurant, commerce, housing, culture and space for students. In addition, the area is to be car-free except for deliveries and only open to non-motorized traffic. (ah)
