Ittigen: New residential development to become plus-energy quarter
Switzerland's first plus-energy district is to be built in Ittigen (BE). Losinger Marazzi, the landowner CPV/CAP Pensionskasse Coop and the municipality of Ittigen are jointly developing the project.

According to current plans, the Aarerain development in Ittigen-Worblaufen will be Switzerland's first PlusEnergy quarter, according to developer Losinger Marazzi, landowner CPV/CAP Pensionskasse Coop and the municipality of Ittigen.
Housing for 350 to 450 residents is to be built on a site area of around 23,000 sqm, with a total of 167 apartments and a floor area of 18,700 sqm planned. The residential mix will comprise 1.5 to 5.5-bedroom apartments, with a focus on family apartments. Public neighbourhood uses such as a daycare centre and a neighbourhood meeting place are planned for the ground floors.
A design by Fischer Architekten from Zurich will be implemented which, in the opinion of the jury, embeds the development in an exemplary manner in its surroundings and, on the other hand, deliberately leaves the open space along the Aare. The documents are currently undergoing preliminary examination by the canton; the amendment to the basic planning regulations is to be submitted to the Ittigen municipal assembly before the end of the year. Construction could begin in 2020/21.
In order for the quarter to achieve the PlusEnergy Quarter standard, it must produce more energy per year than it consumes. According to the press release, the energy can be produced with photovoltaic panels on the roof or façade, for example. (ah)
