Zurich: Cooperative rebuilds in the Unterstrass neighborhood
The Vrenelisgärtli building cooperative is planning a new development in Zurich-Unterstrass. The architectural competition for this has now been decided.

The Vrenelisgärtli building cooperative wants to replace its apartment buildings between Seminarstrasse and Rötelstrasse in Zurich-Unterstrass. There are to be 85 two- to five-room apartments as well as rentable single rooms, offices/studios, a community room and a double kindergarten. The winner of the architectural competition was the project proposal "Tokeh" by the Zurich team Baumann Roserens Architekten AG and Laboratorium KLG.
The project is the third and final stage in the renovation of the Vrenelisgärtli building cooperative. The buildings of the cooperative in the Zürich-Unterstrass neighborhood were built between 1931 and 1934 according to plans by architect Otto Gschwind. In a first stage, the apartment buildings in the Hofwiesenstrasse/Wachterweg/Seminarstrasse area were renovated in 2012/2013. In 2015, the apartment buildings in the Hofwiesenstrasse/Laubiweg area were replaced by new buildings in the second stage. Now the apartment buildings between Seminarstrasse and Rötelstrasse are also to be replaced with new buildings to the Minergie-P-Eco standard. The building cooperative expects completion in 2022. (ah)
