Basel: Partial deconstruction on VoltaOst site begins
Preparatory work for the development of the VoltaOst site will start in February. The canton of Basel-Stadt is planning a new mixed-use building there.

On the VoltaOst site near Voltaplatz in Basel, a development is to be built with neighborhood apartments, apartments for social welfare and for students; at the same time, space is also planned for a daycare center and a playgroup. Although the building permit for the project has been available since August 2018, it is not yet legally valid due to an appeal.
After the Building Appeals Commission has largely approved the lifting of the suspensive effect for preparatory work, the remediation of pollutants in the existing buildings can now begin, the canton of Basel-City informs. The remediation will allow the demolition of the above-ground parts of the existing buildings and the start of archaeological soil research. The lifting of the suspensive effect is of great importance for the VoltaOst project, as the site can now be prepared for new development. (ah)
