The new Chamblioux-Bertigny neighborhood is being built on a 65-hectare site and has the potential for 20,000 to 30,000 residents, according to earlier information. It will combine jobs, housing and leisure activities. The basis for the large-scale project is the freeway overlay between the municipalities of Fribourg, Givisiez, Granges-Paccot and Villars-sur-Glânevon, which will make it possible to eliminate the bifurcation of the agglomeration by the freeway.

Now a further step has been taken towards realizing the project: at the end of January, the State Council approved the draft decree and the message on a project planning credit for the project and submitted it to the Grand Council. The cantonal parliament will then deal with the credit request in its March session.

The credit is to be used to determine the optimum length of the freeway overlay, to carry out the technical studies necessary for the structure and to draw up concepts for the program, the special-purpose regulations and the urban and environmental design. A total of CHF 8.25 million has been budgeted for this, half of which will be borne by the State of Fribourg. The other half will be borne by the city of Fribourg and three agglomeration communities.
