Berne: Housing stock rises only slowly
In the city of Bern, the housing stock increased by 148 to 77,102 units last year. In the previous year, the stock had increased by 543 units.
According to the City of Bern, the increase in apartments includes 45 apartments in new buildings (18%) and 212 apartments in conversions (82%). 109 apartments have been dissolved in the past year due to building demolitions or conversions. This results in a net increase of 148 apartments for 2018. In the previous year, 543 new apartments were added to the stock.
As of the end of 2018, 235 apartments in 22 new buildings were reportedly under construction, and 405 apartments were also under reconstruction or conversion. 190 apartments will be lost through demolition, conversion or change of use. This results in a net increase of 450 (previous year: 440) due to apartments under construction, according to the city of Bern.
