Bern: Centre of Kehrsatz to be built over
In the center of the municipality of Kehrsatz (BE), a large development for residential and commercial use is planned. The results of the test planning have now been presented.
The municipality of Kehrsatz is planning the internal development of Bahnhofmatte into a residential and work location and the relocation of Zimmerwaldstrasse.
According to local media reports, a development with 300 apartments and services is planned on the Bahnhofmatte. It will consist of three- to four-story buildings and a seven-story building as an accent on a newly designed station square south of the railroad tracks. The landowner is the Burgergemeinde Bern. It could realize parts of the development itself or give the land in building rights.
Zimmerwaldstrasse - the connection between Längenberg and Bern - is to be relocated and join the bypass road at the level of the train station in a traffic circle. This should reduce through traffic in the village; the existing Zimmerwaldstrasse is to be converted into a neighborhood road.
The population is expected to be able to decide on the "Kehrsatz Mitte" project at the end of 2020 as part of the local planning revision. Construction could begin in 2023 at the earliest. (ah)
