The area of the former chemical factory in Uetikon am See is a key site due to its location and size, writes the government council of the canton of Zurich in a statement. As owners, the canton of Zurich and the municipality of Uetikon am See are jointly carrying out the "Chance Uetikon" area planning; a master plan for the area development is now available.

In 2012, the factory ensemble, which is over 200 years old, was included in the Federal Inventory of Swiss Sites of National Importance (ISOS). The master plan takes up the basic structure of the former industrial site without protecting every building.

Canton school for 1,500 students and housing for 800 people

According to the master plan, the site will be divided into four areas: The west will be primarily residential, according to the release. The mixed-use center is designed as a meeting space and offers areas for public uses, residential, commercial and services. The school area in the east will house the new cantonal school for around 1,500 students and any other educational institutes. At the harbor, commercial and service uses are planned in the existing buildings. In addition, a public lakeside park is planned that extends over the entire length of the site of around 750 meters.

On the basis of the master plan, the canton and the municipality are now drawing up the design plan, which regulates the development, use and access to the site in a way that is binding on the property owners. The design planning is to be completed in 2021. (ah)
