Biel/Nidau: Agglolac planning takes another hurdle
Planning for Mobimo's Agglolac project on Lake Biel is one step further. Now that the preliminary examination by the canton has been completed, the basic building regulations will be made available to the public.
The cities of Nidau and Biel and the real estate company Mobimo have been pursuing plans for a city extension to the lake since 2012. A new quarter is to be built on the former Expo site, between the Bay of Lake Biel and Nidau Castle. However, there was fierce opposition among the population to the large-scale project, especially to the planned high-rise building.
As part of the preliminary examination, the cantonal authorities have now determined the conditions under which the project can be realized on the lake. As a result, the project company has made some adjustments: Accordingly, the maximum permissible height of the high-rise building will be reduced from 70 to 48 meters. In addition, the location and height of some buildings will be slightly changed, which will slightly reduce the density of use in the Agglolac area.
Now they are working on solutions that will ensure the economic viability of the project for Mobimo, Biel and Niedau under the new conditions, according to a communiqué from the municipality of Nidau.
After the summer vacations, the basic building regulations are to be put on public display. The referendum on the project is scheduled to take place in May 2020. (ah)
