Ambri: Start of construction for new ice hockey stadium
The construction consortium for the new ice hockey stadium of the Ticino field hockey club (HC) Ambri-Piotta started work last week. The indoor project is expected to be inaugurated in 2021.

HC Ambri-Piotta announced that the final loan agreements with the banks involved (UBS, Credit Suisse, Banca Stato and seven Raiffeisen banks of Ticino) have recently been signed. In addition, the final contract with the construction consortium has been signed. Valascia Immobiliare SA, which is majority-owned by the field hockey club, will act as the builder. According to earlier information, the construction period will last 22 months.
On the site, a former military airfield of Ambri in the upper Leventina, the symbolic groundbreaking ceremony had already been held in December 2018 in the presence of President Ueli Maurer. As part of the remaining preparatory work, an old building (Hangar 6 on the former airfield) was recently demolished. Now the excavation for the foundation of the new multifunctional hall is taking place.
The new ice hockey stadium, designed by architect Mario Botta, will have 7,000 seats, of which 4,000 are standing and 3,000 are seated. Including demolition costs, it is expected to cost 53 million francs. The banking consortium will provide approximately 14 million francs. A similar sum will be raised from the company's own funds and private donations. The public sector is providing the rest of the money in the form of loans and guarantees. (mr)
