Bern: Start for Holliger development

In August, the first construction work will begin on the planned Holliger development in Bern. Around 250 apartments are to be built there by 2023.

The Warmbächli housing cooperative is making a start on the site of the former waste incineration plant in Berne-Holligen. It will start next month with the conversion of the former Tobler warehouse building at Güterstrasse 8 into living and working space. In addition, four further building sites are planned. The building lease contracts were already signed in autumn 2018.

Six non-profit developers are building the new Holliger development. In addition to the Warmbächli housing cooperative, these include the Aare Bern and Brünnen-Eichholz housing cooperatives, the Bern Railway Construction Cooperative, the Fambau Cooperative and npg AG for sustainable construction. In 2017, the parties involved founded a building consortium for the project.

The total of six buildings are to be ready for occupation in stages between 2021 and 2023. The Warmbächli cooperative expects the conversion work on its project to be completed in summer 2021. The remaining five buildings will be new, including a high-rise which the railway cooperative plans to build from the year after next. (mr)
