How the Aargauer newspaper reports, the owner of the hotel with 16 rooms, the gastronomy group ZFV-Unternehmungen, wants to demolish the property. The house has been empty for more than three years after a smouldering fire and renovation is not economically viable, they say.

According to the report, a first building application for the property near the station was already available at the end of 2017, but there were objections from the neighbourhood. The second version is now open until 26 August and has also met with the approval of the City Image Commission. The plan is now for 14 two- to three-room apartments on floors two to six, with offices on the ground floor and first floor. Instead of the balconies that were planned in the first planning application, the apartments will now be equipped with loggias.

The cost of the new building is expected to be around CHF 5 million, with construction estimated to take one year.

The ZFV companies also own the Sorell Hotel Aarauerhof on Bahnhofplatz in Aarau. The group acquired the congress hotel in mid-2012 and wants to replace the 1970s building with a new one, according to a statement in January this year. The study contract was won by the architectural firm :mlzd from Biel. A building application has not yet been submitted. (ah)
