The former administrative building of the energy supplier Eniwa, also known as the IBA building, is located at Obere Vorstadt 37 in Aarau. According to the will of the judiciary management, it will house the Aarau District Court in the future, which is currently spread over three buildings. In addition, the Special Administrative Court, the High Court Library and the Bankruptcy Office are to move into the Eniwa building. With the leasing of the four court units, the property would be fully occupied.

The property had already housed the Supreme Court from 1925 to 1966 and later the Commercial Court, writes the judiciary management in a statement. It meets the space requirements, is very well connected and is located in the immediate vicinity of the Supreme Court. The merger of the courts allows for a central court location in Aarau.

The government council has approved the project in principle and approved a project planning credit of CHF 1.6 million. In the next phase, the planning tender will be launched and the project will be presented to the relevant committees of the Grand Council. The implementation credit is expected to be submitted to the Grand Council in 2021.

Once approval has been granted, the lease can begin in 2022. From today's perspective, the courts could move into the Eniwa building at the beginning of 2024. Until then, "extensive structural measures" would have to be carried out to adapt the building to modern requirements, according to the judiciary management. (ah)
