Wetzikon: ZO Medien plans residential and commercial development
Zürcher Oberland Medien AG (ZO Medien) wants to replace its headquarters in Unterwetzikon with a new building. The plan is for a new media building with office and commercial use as well as around 60 apartments.
The new ZO Medien building is being constructed in Unterwetzikon opposite the railroad station in the Rapperswiler-/Pestalozzi-/Leuthold-/Spitalstrasse area. At around CHF 35 million, it is likely to be the largest investment project in the company's history, according to ZO Medien.
The building will provide space for the editorial team and publishing house, as well as additional commercial premises, offices and around 60 apartments. The Newsstreet one project is being realized by CH Architekten from Wallisellen. The three-part complex will be accessed via an internal public alley. The building will be accessible and traversable from both Spitalstrasse and Pestalozzistrasse. Connected to the passageway will be a freely accessible inner courtyard with steps leading up to Leutholdstrasse. The basic structure of the planned building will allow the commercial spaces and offices, as well as the apartments, to be continually adapted to current needs. Small apartments are currently planned, as the planners believe that the convenient and central location is particularly attractive for students.
The Board of Directors of ZO Medien believes that the centrally located 2,800 sqm site is underutilized. With the positive outlook on the real estate market, the project will certainly also be of interest to the company's shareholders.
The preliminary and construction project will be drawn up next year, with construction due to start in spring 2021. The rooms should be ready for occupancy a good two years later.
