Basel: BLPK high-rise project open to the public
The Basellandschaftliche Pensionskasse (BLPK) wants to replace its high-rise building on the Heuwaage in Basel with a new building. The development plan is now open to the public.
The plans for the new high-rise building on the Heuwaage were presented two years ago. The owner, Basellandschaftliche Pensionskasse (BLPK), wants to have its existing high-rise building there demolished because it no longer meets today's requirements in terms of ecology, earthquake safety and fire protection, among other things.
Miller & Maranta won the study contract for the new building. The plan is for a pentagonal, free-standing high-rise building with a total of 20 upper floors, some of which are staggered back.
The first floor will contain the entrances to the office floors and the apartments, as well as areas for retail and gastronomy. The second floor will provide additional space for sales and services. The second to the sixth floors will be used for offices or medical practices, and the upper floors will contain around 70 rental apartments with 1.5 to 4.5 rooms. The existing high-rise building houses 41 apartments.
The plans for the project will be open to the public until October 1. Construction is expected to start in 2022. (ah)
