Basel: Start of construction for Helvetia Campus
On October 14, construction began on Helvetia's new headquarters at St. Alban-Anlage in Basel.
Helvetia is redesigning its headquarters by 2025 and expanding it into the Helvetia Campus Basel. The project is based on designs by Herzog & de Meuron.
By the end of 2022, a twin building will be constructed parallel to the current main building - a "contemporary reinterpretation of the existing building," according to Helvetia. The two high-rises will be connected by an intermediate building that will include an auditorium, a reception area and event rooms. The previous main building, which dates back to the mid-1950s, will be renovated at the same time.
The final stage of the project will see the construction of a new residential building on the north side of St. Alban-Anlage, with construction expected to start in 2025. Around 50 rental apartments will be built there, also according to the plans of Herzog & de Meuron, and the park will be preserved. The entire project is expected to last until the end of 2027. (ah)
