Weltpost Park is a project by SSA Architects. Three residential buildings are being built on a site previously used only for offices and services, the first of which will soon be ready for occupation. The project was developed by SPS Swiss Prime Site and sold to Allianz Suisse Immobilien in 2018.

The angular house A forms a transition to the existing residential buildings in the west, while the now completed, elongated house B shields an inner courtyard from the highway. The U-shaped structure of House C contains a number of commercial spaces on the first floor along Weltpoststrasse with an outdoor area in front. In terms of height, the ensemble ties in with the six-story office buildings to the east.

While the apartments in houses A and B are in the mid-range rental segment, house C will offer affordable apartments. Here, the net rent for some of the 4-room apartments is expected to be around CHF 2,000. The apartment mix consists of 1-room studios through to flexible 5-room apartments.

All buildings are Minergie-Eco certified, are built according to the SIA energy efficiency path (SIA 2040) and the energy required is generated entirely from renewable sources, including solar energy. Heating, including hot water, is provided by four ice storage tanks combined with wastewater heat recovery. It is currently the largest facility of its kind in Switzerland, says Herbert Schmid, founder of SSA Architekten.

On December 1, owner Allianz Suisse Immobilien hands over House B to the residents; 63 apartments have been built here. All 170 apartments on the site are scheduled for completion by spring 2020. (ah)
