The "Märthof" property on Marktplatz in Basel, previously home to the electronics retailer Interdiscount, is to become a luxury hotel with a restaurant and bar. The hotel group Bâle Hotels, which belongs to the Coop Group, is building a four-star hotel of the upper category here.

Like BZ Basel reported with reference to the planning application, 64 rooms are planned, including eight suites and eight junior suites. A fitness room in the basement, a library on the second floor and a roof terrace with seating for 50 are also planned. A bar with an outdoor area will be set up along the Eisengasse.

According to the newspaper report, the costs for the conversion of the Märthof will be around CHF 22 million. The exterior of the building will be changed only slightly: No changes are planned to the masonry. Parts of the facade that are already plastered and painted will be repainted, while the natural stone sections will only be cleaned. The roof and the windows would also be renovated only gently.

The building permit for the conversion and renovation of the Märthof has been issued. The conversion of the property is scheduled for completion in the first half of 2021.

The Bâle Hotels group already operates the Hotel Pullman Basel Europe on Clarastrasse and the Hotel Victoria on Centralbahnplatz in Basel. (ah)
