The president of Zermatt Bergbahnen AG Franz Julen told the Viewthat the company intends to invest at least CHF 150 million in the Matterhorn region by 2025.

To this end, the existing infrastructure at the highest mountain railway station in Europe is to be significantly expanded. According to the report, plans include a viewing platform, a restaurant in the mountain and other attractions.

Below the Klein Matterhorn, a "summer ski paradise for guests from the Arab or Asian region" is also planned, with sports retailers, rental shops and ski schools. According to Julen, tourists from the Gulf States and Asia spend considerably more money than local tourists, who leave an average of CHF 140 behind, at CHF 420 and CHF 380 per day, respectively.

In the future, Zermatt Bergbahnen wants to generate a third of its revenue in the summer, according to Julen. Currently, it is only a quarter. There is "huge potential" at the Klein Matterhorn. A new lift has been built there, and a second is to follow. According to Julen, the costs for the two lifts alone amount to almost 100 million. (ah)
