Thun: New business park
In February, the Thun City Parliament voted unanimously in favor of the building lease agreement with Armasuisse for construction site B5 on the site of the Thun North ESP.
The development of the B5 construction site at the intersection of Allmendstrasse and General-Wille-Strasse, the first concrete transfer of an area previously used for military purposes to the private sector, opens up new opportunities for the city to attract and relocate companies.
The building lease agreement opens up new perspectives for the city to attract companies. In total, the city secures around 50,000 square meters of new gross floor area, which can be brought to the market together with a development partner. The first stage of a new business park is already to be realized by the end of 2023.
Building site B5 is also of great importance in connection with the support package for the location of the Empa Federal Laboratories for Materials Testing and Research in Thun. The building lease agreement lays the foundation for the expansion and relocation of Empa within the ESP Thun North site. In addition to the premises that will be provided for Empa, a technocampus is also planned that will provide an inspiring microcosm for both start-ups and young entrepreneurs, according to the city of Thun.
