A consortium of investors comprising the Bern Pension Fund and Frutiger AG Immobilien has acquired the 30,600 square meter site of Rigips AG in Heimberg, Bern. The new ownership is pursuing the goal of developing the site into a mixed residential quarter with public uses.

Rigips AG, which produces gypsum drywall systems and offers solutions for sophisticated interior design, had announced in May 2019 that it would shut down its Leissigen and Heimberg plants; in exchange, production in Granges (VS) is to be expanded.

The company had commissioned SPG Intercity Zurich AG with the sale of the Rigips site to a suitable seller, who showed the potential of the site in an initial feasibility study. According to this study, the site, which is located in the center of the village and directly adjacent to the train station, lends itself as a development area for residential and commercial use; especially since the community of 7,000 inhabitants is only a few kilometers away from Thun and has good transport connections.

According to Robert Hauri, CEO and co-owner of SPG Intercity Zurich, the aforementioned group of investors was won as a buyer in a closed sales process. The property is now to be rezoned to a residential zone with a commercial component. (bw)
