New hotel for St. Gallen
Now that the special use plan is legally binding, the pension fund of the city of St. Gallen is pushing ahead with further planning around the Villa Wiesental.
Villa Wiesental, located on the site of the railroad station north, which the pension fund of the city of St. Gallen acquired from HRS Real Estate last year, has been slated for renovation for several years. The St. Gallen City Council voted in favor of preserving the villa in the fall of 2017.
Initially, in addition to the renovation of the villa, the construction of a multi-storey office building with underground parking was planned for around CHF 28 million. However, this plan has been changed in the meantime, the PF of the City of St. Gallen informs and refers to studies and market clarifications, according to which an urban hotel with modern interior design would make more sense than an office building in the immediate vicinity of the main station. In addition, the city, which is also the site of the Olma trade fair, has been calling for more beds in recent years.
In the meantime, the Wiesental special use plan has been approved by the cantonal building department and put into effect by the city of St. Gallen on April 1, 2020, the statement continues. HRS Real Estate, the general contractor responsible for the professional renovation of the villa and the construction of the new building, has already been commissioned to prepare the necessary documents for a building application. According to the information, the new hotel will have around 100 rooms and an underground car park and will open in 2022. (bw)
