Zurich: Delays at The Circle

Due to the Corona crisis, construction site operations at the major project The Circle at Zurich Airport are currently only possible with restrictions. Individual uses of The Circle will therefore go into operation with a delay; the opening will be postponed.

The construction site for The Circle at Zurich Airport remains open, but work is restricted due to the current situation. The Circle co-owners' association, consisting of Flughafen Zürich AG and Swiss Life AG, has implemented extensive protective measures: For example, additional washing and disinfection points have been set up, distance rules are strictly observed and free parking spaces have been made available so that the tradesmen involved in the construction can travel individually. All companies involved are required to strictly comply with the protective measures.

Due to the current restrictions, the co-owners expect slight delays in completion and commissioning. According to current knowledge, delays of around two to three months are to be expected, according to a statement. Not all tenants will be affected. Depending on how long the aggravating situation continues, this may further affect the schedule.

Together with the total contractor HRS Real Estate AG and its subcontractors, every effort is being made to keep the delays for the other tenants and modules as short as possible. Due to the slight delays, the opening ceremonies planned for September 2020 will also be postponed; the new dates will be communicated at a later date.

The completion of the hospital infrastructure for the outpatient healthcare center that the University Hospital Zurich is building within The Circle is a high priority, according to the statement, not least because of the current medical emergency and the high demand for alternative space. The space is on schedule to be handed over to the University Hospital Zurich in summer 2020, with the opening taking place next fall. (bw)
