On behalf of the owner Assetimmo Immobilien Anlagestiftung, SPG Intercity Zurich AG has let an area of around 1,100 sqm spread over several floors at Kornhausplatz 7 in Bern to Aldi Suisse AG. The sales area extends over two floors with around 700 sqm, of which 300 sqm are on the ground floor and 410 sqm in the basement. There is also space for storage and technical equipment. The building at Kornhausplatz 7 is located in the immediate vicinity of Marktgasse and Zytglogge and is currently undergoing complete renovation. Aldi Suisse is expected to open the store at the end of 2021.

Robert Hauri, CEO and co-owner of SPG Intercity Zurich, sees the lease as a sign that the traditional retail landscape in Switzerland is changing: "The big retailers are opening locations at high-frequency sites in city centers and they are opting for new, innovative formats." Aldi is taking such a route with a store that extends over two floors: this allows the Swiss retailer to offer around 1,600 items for everyday needs in the middle of Bern's highly congested city centre.
