The Pension Fund for Doctors and Veterinarians (PATBVG), as landowner of five plots south and north of Schwarztorstrasse, wants to build a residential and commercial development on the Meinen site. According to the City of Bern, the project is intended to contribute to the development of the neighbourhood and the densification of the city.

The basement and ground floor of the northern part of the development will house retail, services and small businesses, such as a retailer and a café. Around 185 apartments will be built on the upper floors. According to the city of Berne, one third of the living space, or around 40% of the apartments, is intended for affordable housing. The development will also include attractive outdoor spaces with an inner courtyard, a small park and a roof terrace. The site should generate only a small amount of motorised traffic. At least 435 bicycle parking spaces are planned, and delivery should be as compatible and conflict-free as possible with the neighbourhood.

The public display for the zoning ordinance will run from May 7 to June 5, 2020; Bernese voters are expected to vote on it in March 2021. (ah)
