New tenants in Bern's Westside
A Decathlon store opens in the Westside shopping center in Bern-Brünnen. The French sporting goods retailer is the new tenant of Globus.
According to Migros Aare, the owner of Westside, it has succeeded "within a relatively short time" in acquiring new tenants for a total of over 3,500 sqm of retail space. Decathlon will take over the 2,800 sqm space on the first floor, succeeding Globus as of November 2020. The department store chain will continue to operate the space on the ground floor until the end of January 2021. Globus had announced at the end of January that it would close its Westside location.
In addition, the catering companies Stars & Stripes with its American and Tres Amigos with its Mexican offerings are taking over the Sportsbar and Desperados areas, respectively, near the Pathé cinema. They are scheduled to open in late summer.
According to Peter Gosteli, overall head of Westside center management, Decathlon with its wide range of sports articles and accessories is "an excellent addition to the product mix", and with the two restaurateurs, the leisure and shopping center completes its food offering with two more restaurants. Migros Aare emphasizes that it wants to stick to the overall concept of the Westside: "It needs a mixture of experience and purchase. For a leisure and experience centre, the focus is on the overall destination, which appeals to a broad customer base," says Gosteli. (ah)
