Bern: Marti and Frutiger build new RBS station
Regional Transport Bern-Solothurn (RBS) has awarded the main works for the construction of the RBS station and the associated new access tunnel. The contract was awarded to the Bernese construction companies Frutiger and Marti.

According to RBS, Marti AG will carry out construction lot "1.3 Station", which comprises the shell of the actual underground station. Construction will start at the beginning of 2021.
Frutiger AG is constructing the access tunnel. The construction lot comprises the excavation and shell construction of the future access tunnel in the direction of the Eilgut area and Bern railroad station. Construction work is scheduled to start in September of this year.
The two construction lots with a cost of CHF 230 million comprise the main work in the RBS project part of the major project Zukunft Bahnhof Bern. RBS and SBB are expanding Bern station, which is reaching its operational and spatial limits. RBS is building the new underground station with four tracks underneath the existing tracks 2-7 of the SBB station. SBB is building a second underground passage between the existing station underpass and the Welle, with access from Länggasse and Bubenbergplatz. (ah)
