As a smart city, the city of Thun wants to offer the population a high quality of life with minimal consumption of resources. A smart city strategy is currently being developed and projects that can be implemented quickly are being realized. Since March, the city has also had a smart city officer in Stephan Juen.

The urban strategy is not intended to be a purely administrative product, says municipal councilor Andrea de Meuron. Smart City is a joint project with the population, she emphasizes. At a kick-off event in mid-May, which had to be held digitally due to the Corona pandemic, the city provided information about initial projects such as the new bike sharing service.

A dialog format is currently being developed that will enable the city of Thun to gather suggestions from the population and from interested groups and integrate them with the ideas of the municipal working group into the smart city strategy. Starting in June, concrete ideas - including a parking app, an electronic building permit process or a digital subscription for the lido and ice rink - will be further developed in order to define the framework for implementation for the attention of the municipal council. Workshops are also planned on specific problems in the fields of education, logistics, energy management and regional value creation. (ah)
