Change of hands for two traditional houses in a prime location in Zurich: The Hoppeler family, owners of the "Opéra" and "Ambassador" hotels in Seefeld for three generations, sold the two Gründerzeit houses to Meili-Unternehmungen this spring - due to a lack of successors, according to a communiqué from the Zollikon-based real estate company.
The Opéra Hotel, whose first floor has already been remodeled over the past two years at a cost of CHF 1.5 million, is scheduled to reopen after the summer vacations. According to the buyer, additional rooms and suites will be added to the top floor of both hotels; the Opéra will receive a rooftop terrace as part of the renovation. The rooftop bar of the Hotel Ambassador, located in the Utoschloss on Bellerivestrasse, is to remain open to the public; the expanded hotel is scheduled to open in spring 2021.
Michael Böhler, the previous director, will continue to manage the two hotels; he has also been appointed Group General Manager of the Meili Hotel Group with its now seven establishments in Zurich and Klosters. In Zurich, in addition to the two newly acquired properties, these are the Hotel Seehof adjacent to the Hotel Opéra, the historic Hotel Rössli near Hechtplatz, and the Hotel Basilea (in future: Hotel Felix) on Zähringerstrasse, which is currently under renovation; in Klosters, the Hotels Piz Buin and Sport.
