New head of construction for St. Gallen
Susanne Hartmann took up her post as head of construction in the canton of St. Gallen at the beginning of June. With the construction department, the government councilor is taking over a resort with a whole series of major projects in structural and civil engineering, spatial planning, and the environment and energy sector.

The new head of the building department, Susanne Hartmann, took office as a member of the government at the beginning of June. She takes over the building department from Cantonal Councillor Marc Mächler, who will in future head the finance department. Mächler can look back on an eventful past legislative term. During his four years in office, the electorate said yes to important building construction projects such as the Platztor campus for the University of St.Gallen or the renovation of the St.Gallen Theater. He was also strongly challenged in the areas of climate change and energy. Last but not least, Cantonal Government Councillor Marc Mächler successfully campaigned for the establishment of the Lake Constance metropolitan area.
For Susanne Hartmann, the areas of activity and projects of the Building Department are not new territory. In her function as mayor of the town of Wils, she accompanied the development of the Wilwest site in close cooperation with the cantons of St. Gallen and Thurgau. Before her election as mayor, she then worked for five years as a construction lawyer in the civil engineering office of the construction department of the canton of Zurich. She even already knows the St.Gallen Construction Department from her own experience: at the beginning of her professional career, she completed an internship in the legal department of the Construction Department.
