Interim use for observatory on Basel's Margarethen Hill
Immobilien Basel-Stadt leases the property at Venusstrasse 7 in Binningen to Kosmos Basel for interim use. An event and meeting center for senior citizens is to be built there.
Kosmos Basel plans to open a house for senior citizens at the observatory on Margarethenhügel in Binnigen in the fall of 2020. To this end, the project has leased the property from Immobilien Basel-Stadt as part of a temporary interim use until the end of 2023.
The lease agreement runs from June 2020 and allows the initiators to develop offers and ideas in line with demand, according to a joint statement from Kosmos Basel and Immobilien Basel-Stadt. In the building, an "attractive and easily accessible meeting place should be created, where older people feel safe thanks to appropriate security measures, even in Corona times." Among other things, an electronic "booking platform" and a shuttle service to the property at Venusstrasse 7 are planned. Until the interim use expires, Kosmos Basel intends to establish permanent locations in the Basel region.
Behind the project is the Culture of Change Foundation, an initiative of Prof. Dr. Daniela Finke, research group leader at the UKBB and Department of Biomedicine at the University of Basel, and Daniel Wiener, entrepreneur, journalist and sustainable development consultant. (ah)
