Langenthal: Study contract for north station area decided
The former industrial sites on the north side of Langenthal railway station (BE) are to be developed into an urban quarter.
Some of the industrial sites north of the railway tracks near Langenthal station are no longer in use and are therefore to be developed and densified. Mobimo, as the developer of the Geiser site, has carried out a study together with the City of Langenthal and the SBB in order to define a basic urban structure for a later development of the plots owned by Geiser, the City of Langenthal and the SBB.
The study contract was won by the Bernese architects Aebi & Vincent together with Extra Landschaftsarchitekten. The design envisages an urban residential and service quarter that is to be socially, ecologically and economically sustainable. The project will probably be realised in several construction stages and by different architectural firms, according to the City of Langenthal.
The winning project is to serve as the basis for the development regulations for the Geiser site, which will be drawn up from summer 2020. Once it is legally binding, Mobimo intends to acquire the land from Geiser, SBB and the city and build on it.
Parallel to the development of the private construction sites, the railway station will be expanded; the city, canton and SBB will invest around CHF 90 million in this. (ah)
