The municipality of Riehen (BS) is planning a neighborhood with predominantly residential use on the 17.5 hectare Stettenfeld shortly before the state border with Lörrach-Stetten.

Already in 2015, the Riehen Residents' Council had decided to develop the Stettenfeld into a sustainable and family-friendly neighborhood. The total area of 17.5 hectares is to be divided into 55% building zones, 35% public green spaces and 10% leisure and sports facilities, with the building zones serving mainly residential purposes.

Since the area is currently home to commercial operations and recreational facilities, it is to be developed in stages. First, however, a land reallocation procedure must be carried out with the landowners. According to the municipality of Riehen, it will be at least five years before the first construction projects for individual properties are ready to go ahead.

By the end of 2020, a picture of the future of Stettenfeld is to be drawn up, which will serve as a starting point for further planning. The plan is to involve not only those directly affected, but also the entire population of Riehen. The Stettenfeld development plan is one of the projects receiving federal financial support as part of the Sustainable Spatial Development 2020-2024 model project. (ah)
